MFT WSC #05 – Follow Your Rainbow

We’re back with another My Favorite Things Wednesday Thursday Sketch Challenge, and this week’s layout is such a fun one to play with!

I had to have some emergency dental work yesterday, and by the time it was completed, it made more sense to add it today.

Last week's winner's card has the cutest details! And I wish my office were this clean. But we won't talk about that, LOL.

This sketch features a large focal panel up top with a series of horizontal elements beneath—perfect for layering color, patterns, or textures while still keeping your design clean and balanced. Whether you love bold color or prefer a more subtle approach, this one is super versatile.

For today’s inspiration, we’re featuring a bright and cheerful card from the Design Team that truly embraces the sketch in the most eye-catching way!

The layered rainbow stripes create a strong visual impact across the center of the card, perfectly echoing the horizontal elements in the sketch. Each strip is stitched for added detail and texture, bringing movement and cohesion to the design. Above the rainbow, a warm sun peeks out over the horizon, complete with soft rays and fluffy clouds that add dimension and a sense of calm.

Julie

The sentiment, “Follow Your Rainbow,” is the perfect finishing touch—simple, uplifting, and beautifully grounded beneath the colorful focal point.

This card is a wonderful example of how you can take a structured sketch and really make it your own with color, layering, and thoughtful details.

Rebecca

Rebecca has created this really cool card that uses a monochrome color palette, and it's on point. Seriously, this card is stunning.

Jess

I love how Jess chose to use dye inks along and created a background feature to create the lined feature in the sketch. Very clever!

Jeanne

Jeanne created her background using dye inks, but it looks completely different than the one Jess or Rebecca created! She also used a monochrome color scheme. That must've been on everyone's mind this week. I love this pink flamingo!

Deborah

Deborah used the cloud stencil to create her create this adorable card using the perfect inks for her design. I don't know about you, but I wouldn't mind taking a good, long nap on these clouds!

Now it’s your turn! We can’t wait to see how you interpret this week’s sketch. Will you go bold and bright, soft and subtle, or somewhere in between?

Be sure to link up your creations and join us for MFT WSC #05. Make sure to add #mftchallenges and #mftcardchallenges to your project, and you'll continue to build your inspiration catalog. Enter your card using the Inlinks below.

Color Challenge Blog Post – Bright & Earthy Harmony MFT WCC #4

Hello, crafty friends!

It’s time for a fresh color challenge, and this palette is such a fun mix of cheerful and grounded tones! This week, we’re working with a vibrant combination of sunny yellow, soft periwinkle blue, cool teal, and warm terracotta brown. It’s a beautiful balance of bright and earthy shades that can take your projects in so many creative directions.

But before we get too far into new inspiration, let's all congratulate Graciela Valdez for her adorable card using last week's sketch. Isn't this precious?

I love how versatile this week's palette is. You could go bold and graphic, soft and floral, or even lean into a more modern, geometric design. Whether you’re ink blending, layering cardstock, or using patterned papers, these colors really play well together.

A few ideas to get you started:

  • Create a bright floral card using the yellow and teal as your main hues
  • Use the periwinkle as a soft background wash
  • Add terracotta accents for depth and contrast
  • Try color blocking for a clean and modern look
Of course, the best part of the weekly challenge is always seeing what the amazing DT has created, so without further adieu, let's do it!

I love them all! I also hope you'll stop by each DT Member's links and leave them some love. We both know how long it takes to make a handmade card, right? They are, IMO, dang near always worth more than the gift! Has anyone else asked someone for a card back if they ever decided to part with it? πŸ– Yep, guilty as charged.

I can’t wait to see how you interpret these colors! Be sure to link up your creations and share your inspiration with the community. Your take on this palette might spark someone else’s next great idea! Make sure to tag #mftchallenges and #mftcardchallenges so you'll help create a one-spot-stop for all the inspiration you could ever need, all in the same place. :-)

Happy crafting!

Happy Wednesday, card crafters! πŸ€

Happy Belated St. Patrick's Day! Do any of you guys have any traditions? I know there's corn beef and cabbage. I've made it once, and it was surprisingly good, but I stink (sometimes) with sticking to the structure of things like that. My hubby is uber thoughtful, and I genuinely love it; I am just not great at it. I am much more the big surprise kinda' gal. My jam is happy tears. If I can elicit happy tears, my joy cup runneth over.

Always, firstly, and quite importantly, this week's winner is Swapna Patil! I love this card! It is so cute and so adorable, I almost can't stand it!

It’s time for another Sketch Challenge, where your creativity takes center stage and a simple layout becomes the canvas for something extraordinary. This week’s sketch is all about layers, textures, and whimsical focal points.

Challenge Ideas

  1. Use the sketch as your foundation. You can rotate, flip, or resize it. Have it your way! ;-)

  2. Consider adding at least two textures. Think embossing, vellum, die cuts, or even subtle ink blending.

  3. Highlight a focal point. Let your main image or sentiment stand out, whether it’s stamped, die-cut, or hand-drawn.

Tips for Inspiration:

  • Layering doesn’t have to be complicated—sometimes a few foam dots and patterned papers are enough to make a card pop.

  • Try mixing bold colors with neutrals to give your focal point some extra punch.

  • Don’t be afraid to experiment—rotate the sketch, try a vertical layout, or even turn it into a tag or pocket card!

Show Us Your Creations:
Share your card using the hashtag #MFTCardChallenges and tag us on social media. We love seeing how you interpret the sketch in your own unique style. You might even be featured in next week’s roundup!

Happy crafting, and may your layers be light and your creativity heavy! ✨

Color Challenge Inspiration: Soft Spring Palette

There’s something magical about working with a limited color palette. A color challenge invites you to stretch your creativity, experiment with combinations you might not normally try, and see familiar supplies in a whole new way. Today’s inspiration features a soft spring palette: blush pink, sage green, a splash of aqua, and lilac.

This trio feels calm, fresh, and perfect for a wide range of cards—from birthdays to thank-you notes.

  • Blush Pink adds warmth and softness.

  • Sage Green brings an earthy, natural feel.

  • Aqua and Lilac complete the palette.

Together, these colors create a balanced look that’s gentle yet sophisticated.

Before we get fully into the challenge, I want to congratulate Airbornewife for her gorgeous card. She combined several different sets and dies to create this beauty.

Card Design Idea

For this challenge card, try building a clean layered design:

  1. Start with a card base of your color choice. Creating a foundation helps the other colors stand out without overpowering them.

  2. Add a blush pink panel slightly smaller than the base. You could emboss it with a subtle floral or geometric texture for added interest.

  3. Create a focal point using the aqua and lilac—perhaps die-cut flowers, a stamped floral wreath, or add in the Sage Green for a layered greenery with leaves.

  4. Accent with small details, like enamel dots, sequins, or tiny stamped flowers.

  5. Finish with a sentiment strip in warm gray or white with dark lettering.

Tips for Color Challenges

Color challenges are about inspiration, not restriction. Here are a few ways to make the most of them:

  • Adjust the shades. Your blush pink can be pale or vibrant, and sage can lean more olive or mint.

  • Use neutrals sparingly. White, black, and kraft are usually safe additions.

  • Add texture. Embossing folders, die cuts, and layered cardstock can make a simple palette feel rich and dimensional.

Join the Challenge

If you’re crafting along, create a card or project using this blush pink, sage green, and warm gray palette. Share your creation and see how different makers interpret the same colors—it's always inspiring to see the variety!

Speaking of inspiration, see what our design team has been up to!

Rebecca was ambitious and created several cards! You'll have to check her IG to see the rest. ;-)

Color challenges are a wonderful reminder that creativity thrives within boundaries. Sometimes the simplest palettes lead to the most beautiful designs.
