It's hard to believe that the summer is half over! I went for a walk last night and marveled at the fact that I don't have to think about wearing a coat or scraping my car windows. We hope you're enjoying the summer and creative time. And for those of you in the Southern Hemisphere — your time will come!
Below you'll find Sketch 238. Create cards, scrapbook layouts, home decor, treat containers, mixed media, etc. using this week's sketch and be sure to link your project below for a chance at the weekly My Favorite Things Gift Voucher worth up to $20.
Our MFT Challenge and Inpiration July Guest Designer Kalyn Kepner has graced us with her presence again this week. I just love her fresh and pretty designs. What a delight!
It shouldn't come as a surprise that Kalyn lives in Amish country in rural Pennsylvania. Her designs often have a sweet and homey feel indicative of the Amish lifestyle. But she's a modern woman through and through with a love for pizza, beauty products, and John Mayer. She's currently attending graduate school studying graphic design.
Let's look at how Kalyn interpreted this week's sketch:
The tilted panel of the sketch is the perfect spot for a big and bold sentiment. Kalyn featured one of the sentiments from the Birthday Wishes & Balloons stamp set. And I love how she used the Hip Clips Die-namics in place of the stars in the sketch.
The Challenge Team is at it again with inspiring creations. Let's see how they interpreted Sketch 238!
Alice turned the sketch on its side and placed our super fantastic Super Girl from the You're Super stamp set in place of one of the stars and the sentiment in place of the other. Mighty cool, I say. And her coloring? I'm not worthy. She amazes me!
Erin Lee made a totally rad background using several ink colors and the new Party Patterns stamp set. And I love how she figured out that the bold sentiment fits perfectly in one of the clouds from the Jumbo Clouds STAX Die-namics. #boom
Jill used the same two stamp sets that Erin Lee did, but by using some neutrals mixed in with fewer circles, she achieves a sleek design accented by the bold sentiment from the Written in Watercolor stamp set. Her design is only a hint of the original sketch, but sometimes the creative train takes you to an unknown destination!
Miriam makes her balloons from the Birthday Balloons Die-namics POP on her design with muted neutrals for the background and then a shot of big BOLD color. The texture she creates using the Balloon Strings background stamp gives the design depth and interest.
Vera played with the tilted panel by stamping, heat embossing, and inking, and then die cutting her sentiment using words from the Brushstroke Birthday Greetings and Arrow Greetings Die-namics sets. She then added playful images in place of the stars in each corner for a sweet birthday card.
Watch for shout outs on the blog every Tuesday, too! We'll feature fun, unique, clever, and noteworthy projects submitted using MFT products with design tips and trend talk. Who knows? You might be SPOTTED! Share your cards on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook using the hashtag #mftstamps.
