Tips, Tutorials, & Techniques - Paper Piecing

Paper piecing may seem daunting but with a steady hand and a little patience, you'll soon be using your stamp images to layer charming characters and scenes for your projects. Go full-out by combining lots of different patterns and colors or choose to focus on just one element, highlighting it with unexpected pattern or texture.

Paper piecing allows you to include texture or pattern in your designs in a way that simple coloring doesn't. Reach for a favorite pattern collection, or, create your own custom pattern with a small-scale background image. To learn how Stephanie created this Faux Denim Paper Piecing based on a design from Barbara, watch below. For more tips and tricks, make sure to subscribe to our Youtube channel!

Accessories practically scream out for a bit of fun pattern. Francine's chilly penguin is just a little bit warmer thanks to his Tiny Check scarf and hat.

Coordinating a background with an element of the foreground image is a brilliant way of tying the whole look together. Jodi's sweet Pure Innocence is darling in her Itsy Bitsy Polka Dots.

Why not "upholster" your project with a paper-pieced element? Furniture and other scenery elements can always benefit from a pop of pattern - in this case, a classic dot from the Dots & Stripes Neutral Paper Pack.
