Wednesday Sketch Challenge - Sketch 235

Happy July and Happy Canada Day! We're glad to have you here with us for some more creative fun!

Below you'll find Sketch 235. Create cards, scrapbook layouts, home decor, treat containers, mixed media, etc. using this week's sketch and be sure to link your project below for a chance at the weekly My Favorite Things Gift Voucher worth up to $20.

We're thrilled to introduce you to our talented July Guest Designer for the MFT Challenge & Inspiration blog. Say hello to Kalyn Kepner!

As a millennial (a super smart and stylish one at that!), Kalyn brings a fresh and youthful joy to her designs. But don't be fooled by her age. She's an old soul at heart with a love for sweet, pretty, and vintage touches. She started making cards seven years ago at the ripe old age of 20, and I've been fortunate to watch her card designs blossom since the very beginning.

Let's look at how Kalyn interpreted her very first sketch as guest designer:

Birthday Ballons Card by Kalyn Kepner featuring the Birthday Wishes & Ballons stamp set and Die-namics #mftstamps

Kalyn went for a very literal interpretation showcasing new, not yet available product for July first revealed yesterday on this post on Instagram. Her pretty color combination makes this card something to celebrate!

The Challenge Team had a lot of fun with this one. Let's see how they interpreted Sketch 235!

Piggy Pretty Card by Alice Wertz featuring the Birdie Brown The Whole Herd stamp set and Die-namics and the Laina Lamb Designs Geek is Chic stamp set and Geek is Chic Glasses Die-namics #mftstamps

Alice took all of the elements of the sketch but shifted the placement of the elements to the left and up. Pairing the Geek is Chic and The Whole Herd stamp sets and Die-namics makes for an adorable and totally hilarious design!

Hello Friend Card by Erin Lee Schreiner featuring the Wavy Greetings stamp set and the Flutter of Butterflies-Solid and Jumbo Cloud STAX Die-namics #mftstamps

Erin Lee simply moves the circle up and grounds the main elements of her design on the Stitched Circle Frames Die-namics. The cloud, butterfly, and sentiment all create the perfect focal point!

Thanks So Much Card by Jill Dewey Hawkins featuring the Written in Watercolor stamp set and the Stitched Circle Frames and Blueprints 25 Die-namics #mftstamps

Jill shrank the sketch to a square and tilted the vertical panel for a strong and funky card. Cool details like stamping a background on the frame and her signature wonky stitching make for a bold design. Her powerful sentiment is the perfect finishing touch.

Empty Without You Card by Miriam Prantner featuring the Laina Lamb Designs Donuts and Sprinkles stamp set and Donuts Die-namics #mftstamps

Miriam chose a direct interpretation of the sketch, but what really stands out to me on this one is her color choice. With the sentiment she chose, the monochromatic and muted hues set the tone for a more serious and somewhat melancholy reason to send a card. And that donut still looks super delicious!

Chilling Penguin Card by Vera Wirianta Yates featuring the Birdie Brown Penguins in Paradise stamp set and Die-namics and the Cross-Stitch Circle STAX Die-namics #mftstamps

Vera widened the main panel and chose juicy, summery colors for her card. And that penguin looks like he's ready for one HECK of a good time. Am I right? I love how he is standing on the sentiment like a boss.

Fabulous Flamingo Card by Veronica Zalis featuring the Laina Lamb Designs Tickled Pink stamp set and Flamingo Die-namics and Zig Zag Stitched Circle STAX Die-namics #mftstamps

Veronica's interpretation of the sketch is positively pretty! I love how she situated the Flamingos Die-namics to create a heart with their heads and necks. The subtle addition of the Garden Flourish Background stamped on the card base is just perfect.
