Wednesday Sketch Challenge - Sketch 255

Those holidays are just creeping up closer and closer, aren't they? Make sure to take some time for yourself to create. It may be the difference between sanity and, well, the alternative!

Below you'll find Sketch 255. Create cards, scrapbook layouts, home decor, treat containers, mixed media, etc. using this week's sketch and be sure to link your project below for a chance at the weekly My Favorite Things Gift Voucher worth up to $20.

These week we have another tasty treat from our November Guest Designer Latisha Yoast!

Latisha says this, "Creating is my happy place, where I am able to zone out and put all of my stress and problems aside. I guess it's like therapy for me. Being a military spouse and dealing with moving and at times being alone, the one constant in my life besides my faith is crafting and being creative. My family always comes first, but having a creative outlet reminds me of who I am." I bet many of us can relate to exactly how Latisha feels. It's that sense of self and the ability to pour ourselves into what we love that makes this hobby so great!

Let's see how Latisha interpreted this week's sketch:

Cup of Cheer Card by Latisha Yoast featuring the Laina Lamb Design Hug in a Mug stamp set and Hot Cocoa Cups Die-namics #mftstamps

At first glance, you might look at the sketch and think, "I don't have a butterfly." But Latisha shows us right off the bat that just about anything can be substituted in the butterfly's place. Latisha creates a cozy feel with the Hug in a Mug stamp set and Hot Cocoa Cups Die-namics. I love how she used the single snowflake and heart stamps from the set to create movement across her design.

The Challenge Team is at it again with inspiring creations. Let's see how they interpreted Sketch 255!

Purrfect Friend Card by Alice Wertz featuring the Cat-itude stamp set #mftstamps

Alice's sweet pastel take on the sketch turns it on its side allowing the kitty from the Cat-itude stamp set to stand tall against a fun background of fishies and flowers. I love how she took all of the elements of the sketch — the focal point, the panel, and the flag and just rearranged them to fit the design she was going for. Pretty nifty, eh?

My Favorite Star Card by Erin Lee Schreiner featuring the True Friends stamp set and the Stitched Star STAX and Cross-Stitch Rectangle STAX Die-namics #mftstamps

Erin Lee follows the sketch quite closely, but what seems like a rather girly sketch turns into a design with a great deal of panache. In place of the butterfly, she features a golden star and the bold sentiment from the True Friends stamp set makes a powerful statement. This is a simple card, but her color choices and touches of metallic gold make this design special.

Warm Wishes Card by Jill Dewey Hawkins featuring the Hand Lettered Holiday and Winter Warmth stamp sets and the Radial Stitched Circle STAX and Stitched Traditional Tag STAX Die-namics #mftstamps

As you can see, Jill's interpretation swerves far from the original. She replaces the panel with a large circle that she stamps in unexpected colors using the poinsettia from the Winter Warmth stamp set. For her design, the tag with the sentiment (from the Hand Lettered Holiday stamp set) becomes the focal point of the card in place of the butterfly. There's never a right or wrong way to approach a sketch. It's all about the end result!

Moose Wonderful Card by Miriam Prantner featuring the Birdie Brown Merry Christmoose stamp set #mftstamps

Miriam turns the sketch 90° and uses the panel as the perfect spot to create a cozy winter scene with the Merry Christmoose stamp set. Though it seems that the butterfly of the sketch is missing on her card, the wooden clothespin and twine bow add a similar "weight" to the design that the butterfly provides in the sketch. It's all about the little details!

Puppy Dog Kisses Card featuring the Top Dog stamp set and Die-namics and the Birdie Brown You Make My Tail Wag stamp set and Die-namics #mftstamps

Vera flips the sketch upside down — and for good reason! By placing the sentiment on the strip and the dog and dog house from the Top Dog and You Make My Tail Wag stamp sets at the bottom of her design, the dog is grounded. If she had placed him at the top of the card, he would have looked like he was floating! Sometimes the elements that you choose to make a card will determine the direction you take your design!

Holiday Joy Card by Veronica Zalis featuring the Birdie Brown Toasty Greetings stamp set and the Streetlights and Brick Wall Cover-Up Die-namics #mftstamps

Veronica chooses a vertical version of the sketch to create her fun shaker element in the panel using stamps from the Toasty Greetings set. The butterfly of the sketch is represented in her card by the festively glowing Streetlights Die-namics. The Brick Wall Cover-Up is the perfect background for this holiday city scene.
